Dan Black
Head Coach | Personal Trainer | Performance Coach
Physical Collective
Dan is the Head Coach at Physical Collective, specialising in body composition, biomechanics, movement quality, and performance-driven coaching. Across both general and competitive populations, he has coached clients to multiple title-winning results, including athletes who have gone on to obtain ANB Pro status, as well as achieving second placing at national level competition.
His coaching experience spans a broad range of physique and performance outcomes, with multiple placing results across divisions including men’s fitness, women’s fitness, figure, women’s sports model, and bikini. Dan is particularly known for combining high-level physique development with a detailed, highly individualised approach to movement, structure, and function.
He has a strong professional interest in complex cases and is especially drawn to clients whose presentations require deeper analysis, problem-solving, and a more nuanced coaching approach. Dan thoroughly enjoys working through cases in significant detail to help uncover contributing factors that may have been overlooked by previous trainers or practitioners, particularly where recurring limitations, asymmetries, injury patterns, or performance barriers have prevented lasting progress.
His work has included assisting clients presenting with scoliosis, hernias, and both chronic and acute sport-related injuries, with a focus on careful exercise selection, symptom-aware modification, and maintaining or restoring performance capacity wherever possible. He has also supported performing artists in addressing work-limiting injuries, helping them continue training and performing while managing the physical demands of their profession.
Dan’s coaching philosophy is grounded in precision, depth, and long-term thinking - with the goal of achieving exceptional aesthetic and performance outcomes without losing sight of function, sustainability, and the individual demands of each client.
